A:This question is raised regularly during our schools for marketplace ministry. Behind it often is found another question – “Why is it when I became a Christian that suddenly I had all sorts of problems arise in my business – or place of work”? There is a difference between a Christian operating in a business but still utilizing purely secular methods and insights and a Kingdom business in which the overall productivity and infrastructure of the business is structured in such a way that it reflects the Glory of God. It is also a business that operates within a worldview that is cognisant of spiritual issues – unlike many businesses that operate purely in a pragmatic and analytical manner. Spiritual warfare does take place within businesses owned and operated by Christians. There are specific areas of strategy and development that are developed right from the owners to clients, and from the raw products to the final products and commodities ready for export or sale, as well as how to navigate the challenge of third party agreements and investments. These are all subject to spiritual influence – both positive and negative. Furthermore, Kingdom businesses understand the importance of utilizing prayer in a tangible and strategic manner – both for the employer – the employees – the clients as well as for the final products.
